Gather Round This Summer
Bring your friends, find a spot and get lost in laid back summer moments while the sun slowly sets.
Our BBQ and picnic area looks out over the kitchen garden and beyond into the Somerset countryside – a perfect sun-soaked hillside for balmy evenings relaxing with something chilled, something delicious, and some excellent company.
Each Garden Late will feature a different culinary theme – find out what's happening and when, below.
Garden Lates: Horrell & Horrell - 18 June
Our first Garden Lates Dining session welcomes back co-hosts Jules and Steve from Horrell & Horrell for an unmissable al fresco feast.
Expect homegrown, seasonal fare that showcases the abundance of summer. Where you eat is up to you – pick your view and settle in with a picnic blanket on the grass, or claim a table right at the top.
Garden Lates: The Butcher's Kitchen - 9 July
Carnivores should put 9 July firmly in their diaries for an evening which promises perfectly smoked, charred and grilled flavours.
With The Newt’s Head of Food Gelf Alderson at the helm, expect the likes of British White sirloin and rump steak, alongside treacle spiced brisket, ember roasted potatoes and freshly baked sourdough baguettes. Mouth watering doesn’t even cover it.
Garden Lates: Garden Greats with Herb van Drongelen - 24 July
Our third session takes place in the Garden Café and is a kitchen takeover with Herb van Drongelen, Executive Chef from our sister property Over-Amstel.
Shaped entirely by what's picked that day, Herb's menu will follow the rhythm of the gardens, a shared table built around estate-grown produce, bold flavours and the beauty of eating in season.
Garden Lates: Seafood BBQ - 13 August
Next on the line up is our first August date, where Gelf returns with a menu celebrating all things seafood, from scallops dressed with chilli butter to perfectly charred Cornish lobster kebabs.
Alongside, think dressed salads fresh from the gardens and tangy tomato and strawberry panzanella. All enjoyed of course, with a glass or two of Wyvern Wing.
Garden Lates: Lamb Asado with Ana Ortiz - 27 August
In late August we’ll welcome another guest chef for our fifth Garden Late.
Galápagos-born chef Ana Ortiz is famed for her live-fire cooking (asado), the perfect approach for an evening spent basking in late summer sun. Seasonal flavours bound up in herb, smoke and flame.
